I am Madusanka Dimal

I am Madusanka Dimal, a sculptor based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. During my university years, I delved into installation art and discovered the captivating practice of earth art. However, my true passion ignited with rock balancing, where I create harmony using nature's raw materials. This unique discipline has become my artistic signature.

Intrigued by the shapes and textures of rocks, I began sculpting with these ancient elements, incorporating nickel plates to juxtapose natural and industrial materials. This fusion has infused my sculptures with dynamism and intrigue, leading to gallery exhibitions that challenge traditional perceptions of art. My recent work explores abstract forms, using rock and nickel to represent human figures and encapsulate the human experience.

My artistic journey is one of constant evolution, exploring unconventional materials like discarded plastic bottles to raise environmental awareness and creating thought-provoking installations using condoms to discuss societal norms. Through my work, I aspire to inspire awe and introspection, encouraging viewers to explore their relationship with the world. Art, for me, is a transformative force capable of stirring emotions, provoking thought, and fostering connections beyond language and culture.
